It lies on the river Main and is surrounded by vineyards, making it not only a centre of culture but also of wine. The city has a rich history and its architectural treasures attract tourists from all over the world.

One of the biggest tourist attractions is Würzburg Castle (Würzburger Residenz), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Baroque palace is famous for its grand rooms, extensive gardens and magnificent frescoes. The castle was built in the 18th century and offers visitors a glimpse into the opulent life of the Bavarian nobility. Nearby is St. Kilian’s Cathedral (Würzburger Dom), a landmark of the city. This Romanesque church is one of the oldest in Germany and its imposing architecture leaves a strong impression.

Also worth mentioning is the Old Bridge (Alte Mainbrücke), which connects both sides of the Main River Main and is one of the oldest structures in the city. This bridge was built in the 12th century and still serves as a beautiful pedestrian area, offering spectacular views of the castle and the surrounding area. The main attraction of the bridge is the twelve stunning stone statues that stand in niches on either side of the bridge. The life-size statues of 18th-century figures depict Frankish apostles, saints and prominent figures of the Catholic Church.

Würzburg is also a famous place for wine lovers. The surrounding area is full of vineyards, where mainly Riesling and Silvaner are grown. The town is therefore part of one of Germany’s most famous wine regions. Many wineries offer tastings and tours where you can enjoy not only the wine, but also the beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains.

There are also several natural beauties around Würzburg. The nearby Steigerwald Mountains offer many hiking trails that are ideal for hiking and cycling. The area around the River Main is famous for its picturesque landscapes and small villages, which are ideal for relaxing. Würzburg and its surroundings are characterised by a fascinating mix of contrasts that are well worth a visit.

Würzburg is a historic city located in the northern part of Bavaria, in southwestern Germany.
