| Care for an 86-year-old independent living lady, 55 kg, 162 cm, who has had a stroke and is fully immobile and permanently bedridden. She has left-sided paralysis, swallowing disorders and incontinence (urine, catheter, stool, wears diapers). She also suffers from type 2 diabetes… She is completely dependent on assistance for all tasks. The caregiver provides general care such as positioning and assistance with sitting up in bed, complete hygiene (bed washing), dressing, incontinence care including emptying the urinary bag (with record of the amount). Meals are given exclusively with assistance, soft food should be prepared and care should be taken to ensure safe feeding due to swallowing disorders as well as sufficient fluid intake. The caregiver’s job also includes housekeeping such as cooking, shopping (shops are accessible on foot), cleaning and laundry care. Medicines are prepared, and it is necessary to supervise their administration. Mental support and companionship such as talking, reading, watching TV or listening to stories is also an important part of caregiving. Night care is not regular, only exceptionally as needed (e.g. giving a drink). Lifting is not given, but it is a complete care for the recumbent patient. |
