Caring for an elderly married couple in a shared household.
An 86-year-old lady, 80 kg, 160 cm, suffers from dementia and incontinence, is physically debilitated after a recent hospitalization, has impaired time orientation and short-term memory. She moves independently with the help of a walker and gets up without assistance. She needs partial assistance with dressing, personal hygiene and toileting, including incontinence care. It is important to guide her, remind her of activities and help with the organisation of the day.
An 89-year-old gentleman, 68 kg, 170 cm, has incipient dementia, manifested mainly by forgetfulness and loss of orientation in everyday tasks. Otherwise he is physically independent, moves around without aids and manages most tasks independently. He has an established stoma which he cares for independently. He mainly needs supervision, support in his daily routine and partial help with hygiene (e.g. showering). The caregiver’s job is general household care such as cooking, shopping, cleaning and laundry care, as well as supervising the use of medication (prepared in advance). It also involves companionship, communication, maintaining a daily routine and keeping both seniors active. Nighttime care involves only the lady and is needed approximately once a night (not daily) when visiting the restroom. Lifting is not necessary. The daughter (68 years old) also lives in the house in a separate apartment unit.
