Caring for an 83-year-old gentleman, 60 kg, 168 cm, living alone, who suffers from cancer (prostate cancer with metastases) and has a catheter in place. He is currently immobile and recumbent, currently hospitalized, and further mobility development (possibility of transfer to a wheelchair) is not yet certain. The gentleman is mentally mostly fine, oriented, mildly forgetful. He enjoys reading newspapers and communicating, so company and contact is important. He is partially dependent on help with basic tasks such as hygiene, dressing and toileting. He uses a bedpan and needs to empty the catheter. He manages eating independently but has a reduced appetite and prefers rather light or cold meals. Part of the caregiver’s job is to manage the household such as cooking, cleaning and laundry. Shopping and cleaning the cat’s litter box(there is a cat in the house) is provided by the family. Moves and handling are done with assistance, a reclining bed, wheelchair, bathroom hoist and other aids are provided. No overnight care is needed, the gentleman sleeps well.
