| Caring for a 91-year-old independent living elderly lady, 155 cm and 58 kg with old age weakness.She has a heart disease, is anaemic, receives blood transfusions every 2 weeks. Compression stockings are stretched by the nursing service. Due to her age her short term memory is failing but she does not suffer from dementia. She gets around with the help of a walker, and uses a wheelchair outside the house. The lady is still mobile but may need support with walking, which is unsteady, and getting out of bed. Due to possible urinary incontinence she wears precautionary pads.
The caregiver helps with personal hygiene, entering the shower, washing hair, assisting with dressing and accompanying to the toilet. The lady co-operates well where she can. She also prepares meals and ensures adequate fluid intake and monitors medication (she does not prepare it), accompanies to the doctor, does the shopping, looks after the laundry and regularly prepares new clothes. She also provides companionship and conducts interviews. At night, it is necessary to be escorted to the toilet a maximum of 2 times. Lifting is not necessary.There is also a cat in the apartment, which also needs to be taken care of. |
