Care for an independent living 94 year old lady, 80 kg, 160 cm, who has had a stroke and has limitations on the left side of her body. She does not have dementia. Her hearing is impaired (especially in the right ear), so she needs to speak louder and ideally into her left ear. Her personality is open, friendly and cooperative. She mainly moves around in a wheelchair. Assistance is needed with transfers, as well as getting out of bed or out of a chair. She is keen to walk again, so it is important to motivate her and do simple mobilisation exercises with her. Care should be taken when handling her, as she has artificial shoulder joints and must not be pulled by her arms. She needs partial assistance with dressing, personal hygiene and toileting. Hygiene takes place in a wheelchair accessible shower, with assistance required for entry, exit and actual hygiene as required. Meals are managed independently, but regularity and sufficient fluid intake need to be supervised. Medication is taken independently. The job also includes housekeeping such as shopping, cleaning, laundry care and routine errands. The family comes for lunch daily, cooks and spends time with the lady. Medical check-ups are provided by the family, physiotherapy is done once a week at home. Companionship, communication and maintaining a daily routine is an important part of care. There is also an emergency button. Night care is needed approximately 1-2 times per night, especially with assistance to the toilet seat.
