| Caring for an independent living 90-year-old lady, 49 kg, 155 cm, who suffers from oncological disease – gastric cancer (diagnosed 2 years ago) and has decided not to undergo chemotherapy. In addition, she has fractured ribs and is currently in short-term medical care. She is also experiencing deteriorating memory and symptoms of dementia, which started after surgery under general anaesthesia and have been progressively and progressively worsening. The lady is kind in nature, sociable and friendly, but can be irritable at times, particularly towards her son, but this is not aggressive behaviour. She moves around the home with the help of a walker or a cane. She needs partial help with dressing and personal hygiene, especially in the morning for basic hygiene, but can still manage some tasks independently, such as brushing her teeth. She can manage the toilet on her own for now, but more assistance may be needed in the future. The main role of the carer is to be present, supervise the lady and ensure that she is not alone, especially given her dementia. The job also includes housekeeping such as shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry care. No lifting or night care is necessary. A sensitive and patient approach is important due to the senior’s medical condition. |
