Caring for an 85-year-old independent living lady, 79 kg, 160 cm, who suffers from incipient dementia, short-term memory is gradually deteriorating. She is not prone to running away or verbal aggression and is approachable and communicative in nature. She moves independently with the help of a walker. The lady suffers from atrial fibrillation and senile diabetes mellitus. She uses inserts as a precaution. She needs partial assistance with dressing and personal hygiene and tries to cooperate as much as possible. She manages eating and toileting independently. It is important to supervise sufficient fluid intake and ensure regular communal meals. Medication is prepared by the outpatient nursing service, and the nurse supervises its use. The job includes housekeeping such as meal preparation, shopping, cleaning and laundry care. The caregiver also helps with minor errands, accompanies the lady to medical appointments by arrangement with the family, and helps maintain the daily routine. An important part of care is companionship and activity such as talking, sharing meals, playing games or going for short walks. Night care is not regular, it may be needed about once a night according to the current need, for example accompanying the person to the toilet. Lifting is not necessary.
