Care for an 87-year-old gentleman, 78 kg, 180 cm, living independently, who moves mainly in a wheelchair and with the help of a walker. He has Parkinson’s and limited mobility and mild hand tremor and urinary incontinence (he uses incontinence aids). He does not have dementia.His hearing is compensated by a hearing aid, and his vision is age appropriate. Walking is possible with the support of a walker, daily mobilization is performed. He needs partial assistance with dressing, hygiene and toilet use, he tries to cooperate. Wheelchair accessible shower and shower chair available. Meals are taken independently, need to ensure regularity of meals and sufficient fluid intake. Likes sweet foods, rather soft food is recommended due to mild swallowing difficulties, food needs to be cut up as needed. Part of the care includes supervising the use of medication that is prepared, the first dose is given as early as 6:00 am. This also includes accompanying them to the doctor, dealing with routine matters, assistance with daily living, maintaining daily routines, companionship and communication. Leisure time should be spent according to the gentleman’s interests, for example, watching football, small manual activities, walks, visits to the cemetery or outings together. The gentleman also enjoys spending time in the garden, where it is appropriate to accompany and supervise him. The job also includes housekeeping such as preparing meals, shopping, cleaning and laundry care. There is also a daughter living in the home in a separate unit who is busy with work but helps with the organisation of care. The gentleman is of a quiet, friendly nature, open, grateful for help and occasionally indulges in a cigarette. Night work is required approximately 1-2 times per night, mainly to assist with toileting and changing incontinence aids. There is a large room with a bathroom and access to the garden for the caregiver, the kitchen is shared.
