| Caring for an 83-year-old lady, 57 k, 157 cm, who moves with a walker. She suffers from dementia, incontinence and is debilitated after a stroke. Her memory is impaired, but overall she is acting appropriately for her age. She can get around without assistance, but a walker is recommended. She needs assistance with hygiene, dressing and toileting, including incontinence care (she uses diapers). She needs to be supervised on her medication and assisted in her normal daily routine. Part of the caregiver’s job is housekeeping such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and shopping. There is also a husband living in the household who does not need care, but it is appropriate to support him in the home. Cooperation and sharing of tasks is expected so that both do not feel passive. Shops are within walking distance and spouses are able to go shopping on their own, and it is appropriate to involve them both in routine activities to maintain their independence. Companionship, communication and joint activities such as walks are also important. Night work is needed once a night, at the toilet. Lifting is not necessary. The caregiver has her own bathroom. |
