| Caring for an elderly couple in a shared household. An 86-year-old gentleman, 80 kg, 165 cm, suffers from vascular dementia and has mild incontinence. He is completely independent and walks regularly on his own. He mainly needs supervision, medication reminders and partial help with hygiene. He has problems with orientation, especially in time, and in places also in relation to persons. 82-year-old lady, 65 kg, 160 cm, has Alzheimer’s dementia, incontinence and pain in her right knee. She gets around with a walker. She has speech problems after a stroke. She needs help with hygiene, dressing and normal daily activities. Her orientation is fluctuating and she also has restlessness at night. Part of the caregiver’s job is to manage the household such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and normal household functioning. Minor shopping is accessible by bus, major shopping is arranged by the son. Medicines are prepared by the family and the caregiver has to supervise their use. Night work may occasionally occur for the lady but is not regular. Lifting is not necessary, but the lady needs help getting up. |
