Caring for an 87-year-old gentleman, 80 kg, 178 cm, who is wheelchair-bound and suffers from Parkinson’s syndrome with tremor, general old-age weakness and has a fractured femoral neck.He does not have dementia. He is wheelchair dependent for mobility, can stand with support for short periods of time, and requires assistance with transfers, especially transfers from bed to wheelchair. Assistance is also needed with dressing, personal hygiene and daily care, including showering, hair washing and basic hygiene. Care also includes mobilisation during the day, support with routine activities and accompanying them to the doctor or other important appointments. Meals need to be prepared, as well as the running of the household, i.e. cleaning, laundry and shopping, with shops available within walking distance. There is also a wife living in the household who has been looking after the gentleman on her own and needs help and respite, so the job also includes housekeeping for two people. Night work is not regular, the gentleman usually sleeps from about 21:30 to 06:30, every other night he may need help to transfer to the toilet. He is cooperative in handling, lifting is required as per current condition. The home has all necessary aids including a reclining bed, stair lift, walker and wheelchair accessible bathroom. The caregiver can also arrive with a pet.
