| Care for an elderly couple in a shared household. 92-year-old lady, 50 kg, 155 cm, suffering from dementia and heart disease. She has impaired short-term memory, often repeats herself, asks the same questions , often looks for and puts things away. She is oriented at home and in time, but is unable to organize her day. She is relatively independent in movement, walks unaided in the home and uses a walker outdoors. Occasionally her feet swell, so she needs to unload them. She is very sweet, polite and sociable. A 90-year-old gentleman, 55 kg, 160 cm, has had an accident with a fractured pelvis after a fall and is still debilitated. He moves with a walker and walks stooped, often in pain. He is oriented, but the situation weighs him down mentally and makes him appear confused. He is hard of hearing, so needs to speak loudly and clearly. He is quiet, rather withdrawn but friendly. They both especially need supervision, guidance and help in everyday life. For dressing, hygiene and toileting it is more about reminding, guidance and minor assistance as needed. They eat independently, but need to prepare food, supervise drinking and spend time with them at mealtimes. The work involves household management such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and routine shopping. It is also important to provide companionship, communicate, go for short walks and maintain a daily routine. The seniors attend the day care centre three times a week (from approximately 7:30 am to 5:00 pm). No night work or lifting is required.. |
