Carer Bonn

Care for an 81-year-old gentleman, 60 kg, 170 cm, who has Alzheimer's disease, general frailty of old age, and diabetes treated with insulin. He is forgetful, and often confused in the mornings. Orientation in time and space is preserved; he recognizes close family members. He occasionally experiences dizziness and sometimes fears he won't make it to the toilet in time. He uses incontinence pants. The gentleman moves independently. He only needs guidance and reminders for dressing, personal hygiene, and eating. He manages the toilet independently. He often forgets to eat and drink, so it is necessary to remind him regularly about meals and ensure adequate fluid intake. The nursing service arrives in the morning to administer insulin and prepare medications. The carer administers evening medications. The carer is also responsible for cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, and general household help. The gentleman should be accompanied on walks, although he is not very keen on walking. He is friendly and non-confrontational, but rather solitary. He enjoys reading very much and prefers spending time alone. Night work or heavy lifting is not required. The gentleman usually sleeps through the night, or can occupy himself independently. The gentleman lives in a shared house with his son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren aged 17, 14, and 11. He lives separately from his wife. Both his son and daughter-in-law work, and the family is out of the house during the morning and lunchtime. A private bathroom is available for the carer. Free time by agreement.
