Care for an 87-year-old gentleman, 85 kg, 160 cm, suffering from general old-age weakness, incontinence, and diabetes treated with insulin. He has significantly limited mobility, knee problems, and a high risk of falls. He has fallen several times recently. He moves around the house with a walker; for longer distances, he requires a wheelchair. The gentleman is mentally sound. He has hearing difficulties, so it is necessary to speak loudly and clearly. He can only see out of one eye. He needs assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, undressing, and using the toilet. He predominantly experiences urinary incontinence, and occasionally fecal incontinence. Insulin and diabetes-related care are provided by the nursing service. The caregiver assists with daily activities, cooks, prepares meals, shops, does laundry, and maintains the household. Household help visits once a week. The role includes companionship, accompanying him to church, watering plants, and light gardening. His wife also lives at home and requires minor assistance. The caregiver manages the household for both spouses. At night, the gentleman uses a commode; night duty is not required. A stairlift and a commode are available. No lifting is necessary. Free time is by arrangement.
