Caregiver Halsenbach

Care for a 62-year-old gentleman living alone, 90 kg, 185 cm, who has advanced, progressively worsening dementia. He regularly visits a psychiatrist. He sleeps most of the day, is often confused, and 1-2 times a month is verbally aggressive towards his family. He has a permanent urinary catheter, which is changed by a doctor. He uses pads at night and can announce when he needs to use the toilet. His left hand experiences cramps, which needs to be considered during transfers. The gentleman is mostly bedridden, and his mobility has significantly declined. He can stand for short periods, but cooperates minimally during transfers. He requires lifting and stabilization. A hoist, lifting sling, standing aid, and shower chair are available. In recent years, he has fallen out of bed several times despite bed rails. The caregiver must be physically capable of helping him back into bed or calling for assistance. The gentleman needs help with dressing, morning and evening hygiene, showering, toileting, and increasingly with bed care. He has a PEG tube, through which 200 ml of water should be administered every 2-3 hours during the day using a syringe. A nursing service visits 3 times a day to manage medications. Encourage the gentleman to eat, monitor fluid intake, and support his mobility. He enjoys ball games. Nighttime assistance is needed irregularly, approx. 1-2 times a month, when the gentleman is restless and confused. The caregiver is responsible for personal care, activation, companionship, cooking, cleaning, laundry, dishwashing, and organizing his daily routine. A calm, positive approach and motivation for independence are important. The family assists with larger grocery shopping and accompanying him to doctor's appointments. Free time is negotiable.
