450 kilometres of peace, mountains and Bavarian hospitality

Imagine a 450-kilometre journey along the most beautiful peaks, lakes and views the German Alps have to offer, where every kilometre turns into an experience.

The German Alpine Route stretches across the south of the country through the state of Bavaria, from the Bodensee near Lindau to the Königssee near Berchtesgaden. The nearest major city is Munich, from where the route can be reached comfortably by car in one to two hours. During the drive, you pass through picturesque Bavarian towns and villages, where traditional architecture, flower-decorated balconies and a peaceful atmosphere dominate. The route offers views of Alpine peaks, turquoise lakes such as Alpsee, Tegernsee or Königssee and green mountain meadows.

The great advantage of this route is that even seniors or less fit hikers can enjoy it. Many of the short walks follow flat lakeside promenades or well-maintained forest paths, which are also suitable for Nordic walking with poles. The trail is safe, well signposted and very well maintained during the season. There are also viewpoints accessible on foot that can be reached easily, for example by the lakes or from the centres of smaller towns. In winter, the Alpine Way has a special charm, when the mountains are snow-capped, the lakes are calm and the villages look fairy-tale-like. Even in the colder months, the panoramas can be enjoyed directly from the car or during short walks.

The Alpine Way passes through picturesque villages that have retained their traditional Bavarian atmosphere. After your walk, you can sit down in a traditional Bavarian café, mountain hut or small guesthouse, where they offer tea, coffee, homemade cakes or hearty regional dishes. There are plenty of places nearby for relaxation, wellness or quiet accommodation with mountain views. For example, the town of Bad Tölz offers a pleasant historic centre with several inns and cafés where you can sit down after a leisurely stroll.
