Home to many attractions, history and wine – Bremen

Today we invite you to one of Europe’s most beautiful and oldest squares – the Bremer Marktplatz, located in the heart of Bremen. Did you know that Europe’s largest samba carnival has been held here every spring since 1986?

Bremen’s stunning Marktplatz (Market Square) offers a tour of many historically impressive buildings on an area of almost 4000m2. Among the most notable are the Bremen Town Hall, St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Roland Statue, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St. Peter’s Cathedral was originally built in the Gothic style, but was rebuilt over the centuries into its present Renaissance form. On the corner of the town hall is a tourist attraction sculpture of the Bremen Musicians, four animal characters from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Another symbol of Bremen – the 10 metre high stone statue of Roland – embodies the pride of the Bremen people and you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to touch it and make a wish while doing so.

Bremen is a major port city in north-west Germany and has historically been referred to as the gateway to the world. Together with the city of Bremerhaven, it now forms its smallest federal state with the eponymous name of Bremen. Bremerhaven borders the North Sea to the west and is described as Germany’s only large city on the North Sea.

The 40th edition of the Samba Carnival in Bremen will take place 21. – 22 February 2025. This unforgettable show will surround you with a splendour of colours and exciting rhythms with a touch of Rio, brought to you by around 100 artistic groups.
