Wasserburg is known for its idyllic lakeside location overlooking the mountains. The village itself is characterised by historic buildings with narrow streets that are perfect for strolling. This charming place offers a unique combination of nature and culture.
Wasserburg is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Constance, about five kilometres west of the district town of Lindau. This quiet town of around 4 500 inhabitants is characterised by a picturesque, listed peninsula jutting out into Lake Constance, which is home to a Renaissance castle that once belonged to the Count of Montfort, the Catholic Church of St George and the Malhaus, now a museum and former courthouse from the time of the witch trials. Today, the museum hosts exhibitions on various topics such as fishing, local history and witch hunts. Another important cultural gem of the village is the Antonius Chapel with its unique Gothic Madonna, which is an ideal place for prayer and attracts with its great views.
There is also an extensive network of cycling and hiking trails and a nature reserve in which lies an area of one of the richest bogs in terms of species. If you want to get closer to nature, the thousands of apple, pear, cherry and vine trees literally invite you to take extensive walks in their midst.
The town of Wasserburg is worth a visit at any time of the year. Spring on Lake Constance is represented by the magnolias in bloom. In summer, you can spend your time here with numerous hikes or take a dip in the waters of Lake Constance. At the beginning of autumn, you will experience the hustle and bustle of the fruit and grape harvest. Juicy apples are waiting to be picked and ripe grapes are processed into delicious wines in the wine cellars. Wasserburg is also worth a visit in winter, when the surrounding rolling hills are covered in glistening snow and the clear air offers a magical view of the snow-capped mountain peaks.
The municipality is located in southeastern Germany in the state of Bavaria. Bavaria is famous not only for its tourist capital Munich, but also for the highest mountain in Germany with an altitude of 2962 m above sea level – the Zugspitze, and for the vast lake Chiemsee, also known as the “Bavarian Sea”.
