He relies completely on the caregiver for dressing, hygiene, and using the toilet. Complete body care is required, including feeding, with fluid intake via a straw. Care also includes transferring from bed to wheelchair using a hoist, assistance with transfers to the toilet or shower, changing incontinence aids, and emptying the catheter. Medical services visit 3 times a week for showering. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy take place at home 1-2 times a week. Companionship and communication are also part of the care, ensuring the gentleman is not alone for extended periods. Accompanying him on walks or to do shopping approximately twice a week is also expected. Job duties include household management such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, taking out the trash, and general upkeep of the household. Night work is necessary based on his current condition, approximately 3 times a week for one night when the gentleman is restless and calls for the caregiver. He uses a cannabis-based medical spray for calming. Full transfer assistance is needed during handling, as the gentleman cannot actively help. The household is equipped with an adjustable bed, a patient hoist, and a bath hoist.
