Care for an 87-year-old gentleman, 81 kg, 173 cm, who was hospitalized for two weeks due to kidney failure and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. He has stents and a pacemaker. After surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurysm, he has a scar hernia and wears an abdominal binder daily. He is mentally sound and fully oriented. He uses a walker and requires assistance when walking. He can stand up independently, but sometimes needs light help depending on his current condition. A hospital bed, wheelchair, commode, shower chair, and bath lift are available. Lifting requires only light assistance, and the gentleman is cooperative. The gentleman has urinary incontinence, and occasionally bowel incontinence, and uses incontinence briefs. He requires partial assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, and toileting. He eats independently. The caregiver is responsible for cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, companionship, and assisting with incontinence. Shopping requires a car trip of approximately 7 km. After lunch, the gentleman usually naps, then has tea, and goes to sleep around 10:00 PM. Night duty is required once per night for assistance with toileting. His wife also lives in the household; she has a fractured lumbar vertebra. She does not require care but needs relief from household chores. A manual transmission car is available. The caregiver has a private bathroom. Free time is by agreement.
